Goals, and why I need them

I would like to call myself a self-motivated person, a go-getter, an overachiever, a goals-oriented person, if you will.

If I've learned anything over the past two years, it's that if I don't have a goal, I become lazy.

Very lazy.

Basically, if I don't have a goal, I won't do anything.

I've been tracking all my mileage and steps per day with my Garmin Forerunner15 watch. I was combing through my personal records in my stats yesterday and noticed what appeared to be my best year, as far as running and weight goes, was 2015.

What happened in 2015?

I trained for and ran a marathon and got married. AKA- two great reasons to have fitness goals.

And on my wedding day, I felt beautiful. I felt confident, strong and sexy. I definitely feel that way right now.

In 2015, I had lots of fitness goals and that's what kept me motivated. After my wedding in December 2015, I didn't have as many fitness goals mainly because I was swamped between working 40 hours a week at multiple jobs and finishing my last year of college. It was nuts. (I don't recommend this).

So, naturally, my fitness ended up on the back burner and stayed there while I got my life and career sorted out.

Now that life has somewhat (?) found a rhythm, I'm ready to focus on my fitness again.

I really enjoyed this article I shared on Facebook last night. Basically, the writer found herself in the same place I'm in today. Her words comforted me. It's nice to know other people have momentarily meandered off the straight 'n narrow but willed themselves back.

Food diary:

For breakfast this morning I had a banana, strawberry, peach, blueberry smoothie. (Yes, I just threw all the berries I had in a blender with bananas). I also added one scoop of plant-based protein powder. (My stomach says NO WAY to whey protein).

For lunch, a pinto bean and veggie cheese quesadilla on chipotle lime tortillas from Trader Joe's.

At dinner I had one of my last quinoa black bean burgers and some roasted onions, squash and zucchini.

I ate my last bite just before 8 p.m.

I also ran three miles today. The weather was much more forgiving than it has been, and for that, I'm grateful.
