8 pounds already? | Intermittent fasting update

I've tried to avoid the scale as much as possible, but I couldn't resist my temptation Friday and Saturday.

I stepped on the scale Friday, and to my surprise, I've lost 5 pounds already.

Intrigued again, I stepped on the scale Saturday morning. Down 8 pounds now.

Wuuuuut?

I'm not sure if this is just water weight or if what I'm doing is actually working. However, I will add that I have sweat my bum off this week. The Birmingham sun is unforgiving.

I ran 3 miles Friday, 4 miles Saturday and hope to run another 3 miles today. This will bring me up to 16 miles in to my 100 mile challenge. Just 84 miles to go!

Saturday was a "cheat day." My husband said that's not fair, but whatever. I think I need one day to indulge to keep me from caving on a normal fasting day. I'm sure there's no science behind the beloved "cheat day," but I'm going to make it part of my journey.

Overall, I'm encouraged. Besides the blistering heat, I'm feeling good on my runs. I've found the intermittent fasting has actually helped with my cravings and overall terrible attitude I used to get when I'm hungry. Either 1. the fasting is actually changing the way my body uses insulin or 2. I'm just building more discipline.

Either way, it's working.

I've been drinking limited amounts of coffee (i.e. only 2 cups per day instead of my usual 4-5) and water only. Everything I've eaten has been vegetarian with small amounts of dairy. There's lots of argument about vegetarian/omnivore diet, but I don't feel my energy levels have suffered on a vegetarian diet. Frankly, my digestion is better when I'm eating mostly veggies. It just works better for me, so that's what I'm sticking to.

I'm definitely feeling better but I haven't really noticed a difference in the way I look. That will come... soon, I hope.

Sorry I didn't keep up with my daily food log. (Props to the friend who called me out). I'll get back on that tomorrow.

I'll be suiting up for my 3-mile trek in the heat then I'll hopefully be taking a dive into a friend's pool ;)

Talk tomorrow.
